Are you looking for a great adventure in the British Virgin Island like treasure hunting for example?! Then look no further! It is believed that the pirate treasure tales surrounding Norman Island in the early 18th century is what inspired Robert Louis Stevenson, the famous author of "Treasure Island" – the most, well known quest for buried treasure! Rumor has it that to this day Norman Island and the outlying coves still have more treasure to be found.
In 1750, after a Spanish Galleon ship was wrecked on the shores of North Carolina, pirates stole all of its spoils and supposedly hid it all on Norman Island. Not all of it has been accounted for though, so keep your eyes peeled, especially when exploring the snorkeling hot spots at the Caves and the Indians!
You can also explore Norman Island on foot by hiking up to the summit. The ascent to the peak is of medium difficulty, but 100% worth it as you can experience 360 degree views at the top. If you want to keep going, there is another trail that will take you to the western edge of the island, offering more amazing views of The Bight, Sir Francis Drake Channel, and the Caribbean Sea.
Upon your return back down to sea level, Norman Island has one of our favorite sand beaches to cool off at just before you settle in for a meal or drink at the Pirates Bight Restaurant and beach bar. It is also worth going to snorkel as the chances of seeing a turtle is very high especial in our clear blue waters!
Nearby there is also a another choice of food and drinks just a short ride away at the Willy T. We are sure you have heard of this place! The Willy T is a floating bar and restaurant providing a unique and epic experience that should not be missed. The famous Willy T does not only attract day charter boats from the BVI, but also from the US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix).
Norman island is located 5 miles from our home base, Nanny Cay Marina; Tortola, and located southwest of Peter Island. This uninhabited island was bought by billionaire; Henry Jarecki, for 8 million dollars in 1999 with the intentions of providing an environmentally friendly, high-end, island resort. The development will supposedly consist of hotels, more restaurants, a floating pool, another beach bar, and a water sports center. We look forward to this exciting, new development!
